Hi, we're Lea and James from Woodland Classroom.
We reconnect people with nature through workshops in North Wales and online including bushcraft, foraging, tree ID, woodland wellbeing and forest school.
We created this course because so many people, like you, have a real interest in foraging but don't know where to start. Maybe you're scared that your first taste of a wild mushroom might also be your last? You're not alone, we've been there ourselves.
With Your Wild Food Year we've made this huge subject accessible and digestible for the beginner, with everything broken down into the 12 calendar months. You'll take a year round journey with us to becoming a confident forager.
We really look forward to sharing our knowledge, experience and passion with you.
As well as being an outdoor activity leader I am also a qualified Counsellor and Mindfulness in the Woods Practitioner. I am a firm believer in the power of nature to be therapeutic for everyone.
In my personal life though, I was sick of the side effects of pharmaceutical drugs and sluggish feelings from poor diet. I wanted to take charge of my own health.
I really wanted to know more about the medicinal benefits of the wild plants around me and how they could boost my immune system.
So, I took massive action and started really learning. This was hugely empowering.
Now I enjoy making my own tinctures, skin creams, remedies and more from foraged ingredients.
Having introduced wild food into my diet, I'm getting all the nutritional benefits for me and my growing family's wellbeing.
I've been teaching in outdoor education for 10 years now and I love being out amongst the trees and hedgerows, teaching people about nature and sharing bushcraft skills.
When it came to foraging though, despite already working outdoors, I still struggled to know edible fungi from deadly species and felt overwhelmed by the diversity of wild plants in my local patch.
It wasn't just a case of what to look for either but also where and when these wild foods could be found.
So, I really put the time in to learn a good range of commonly found wild edibles, identifying which were the best months to find them at their best for the forager.
Now I regularly use foraged foods in my own cooking. Our little boy really loves wild garlic.
I really look forward to sharing my wild food knowledge and experience with you.
